HOW TO PAY FOR COLLEGE (Without Going Broke)
April 28, 2011
Paula Bishop, CPA and Certified College Financial Planner, provided helpful information about
understanding and navigating the financial aid system and processes required for college.  Many thanks
to Paula for her dynamic presentation and for sharing the following resources:

Handout from April 28 Presentation:  How to Pay for College

Cost of colleges and their % of need filled, as well as the distribution percentages of the aid
(scholarships vs loans/workstudy)

Colleges that give merit awards, noting the % of students who receive the awards, and the average
merit award in dollars.

Listing of scholarship websites, along with hints for going after scholarships

Colleges that require the CSS Profile, the more complex financial aid form.

Recommended reading list for parents and students.

Colleges that participate in the Western Undergraduate Exchange Program (WUE), where students of
participating states only pay 1.5 times the in-state tuition rates for schools on the list.
